BSP Unveils New List of 11 Candidates for UP Lok Sabha Elections; Athar Jamal to Challenge PM Modi in Varanasi

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has unveiled a fresh list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, announcing eleven contenders for various constituencies in the state. Notably, the BSP has decided to contest independently, opting out of forming alliances with other parties.

Key Candidates and Constituencies

  1. Varanasi: Athar Jamal Lari to contest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  2. Mainpuri: Shiv Prasad Yadav replaces the previous candidate.
  3. Jaunpur: Shrikala Singh, wife of incarcerated politician Dhananjay Singh, nominated.
  4. Budaun: Muslim Khan chosen as the candidate.
  5. Bareilly: Chhotelal Gangwar to represent BSP.
  6. Sultanpur: Udraj Verma named as the candidate.
  7. Farrukhabad: Kranti Pandey to contest.
  8. Banda: Mayank Dwivedi selected as the candidate.
  9. Domariaganj: Khwaja Shamsuddin nominated.
  10. Ballia: Lallan Singh Yadav to represent BSP.
  11. Ghazipur: Umesh Kumar Singh nominated by the party.

Independent Stand and Previous Nominees The BSP reaffirms its decision to contest the Lok Sabha polls independently in Uttar Pradesh, fielding candidates across various constituencies. Previously, the party had announced nominees for several other constituencies in the state.

Voting Phases in Uttar Pradesh Uttar Pradesh, known for its significant contribution to the parliamentary landscape with 80 seats, will participate in all seven phases of the elections. The voting dates are as follows:

  • Phases one and two: April 19 and April 26
  • Phases three and four: May 7 and May 13

Counting of Votes The votes cast in Uttar Pradesh will be counted on June 4, with anticipation running high for the outcome of the elections in the state.
