BSF Foils Intrusion In Tripura; Four Bangladeshi Nationals Caught In Agartala

On Monday, the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted an intrusion in Tripura by 15 Bangladeshi nationals along the international border. In a separate incident, state police arrested four Bangladeshi nationals on the outskirts of Agartala, officials reported.

According to a BSF spokesperson, the infiltration attempt occurred in the Paharmura Border Outpost area in Khowai district. The group of 15 Bangladeshis attempted to cross the border, taking advantage of poor weather and limited visibility. When confronted by BSF troops, the individuals attempted to breach the border fencing forcefully.

In response to the intrusion, the BSF fired a warning shot from a Pump Action Gun. Following the shot, the Bangladeshi nationals retreated and fled back across the border.

The BSF spokesperson noted that, given the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, the force has intensified its surveillance and control along Tripura’s 856-kilometer border with the neighboring country.

To further bolster security, the BSF and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are conducting joint patrols.

This coordinated effort aims to enhance mutual trust and improve operational synergy between the two border forces. Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, Inspector General of BSF (Tripura Frontiers), along with other senior officials, is actively monitoring the situation by visiting border areas regularly.

In a related development, the Tripura police acted on a tip-off and arrested four Bangladeshi nationals from the Nandan Nagar market area in Agartala. The individuals had entered Tripura through a secret route several days prior. Initially, the arrested persons claimed to be Indian citizens. However, after questioning, they admitted to being from Bangladesh.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Kalam, Kamrul Jaman, Nabir Hussam, and Md Jubayer. All are residents of Chapainawabganj district in Bangladesh. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts to address illegal border crossings and maintain security in the region.
