Uruguay’s Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin landed in New Delhi on Friday to take part in the 18th BRICS Summit. He is attending the high-level meeting as a representative of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed Lubetkin and underlined the expanding cooperation between India and CELAC.
The Ministry said the partnership focuses on increasing trade, sharing technology and building stronger ties across the Global South.

India will convene the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13 after assuming the BRICS Chair for 2026.
Leaders from member and partner nations, along with countries invited for outreach, will participate in the gathering.
The MEA said the participating leaders will examine ways to deepen cooperation within BRICS on areas of common interest. They will discuss regional and international developments that carry significance for participating nations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said leaders from several countries would arrive in New Delhi for the BRICS meeting. He expressed hope that the discussions would remain constructive and focus on issues linked to global welfare.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “In the coming days, leaders from around the world will gather for the BRICS Summit. There is full confidence that the conference will feature positive and meaningful discussions on various issues, with aspirations for global welfare.”

Officials continued preparations at Bharat Mandapam on Thursday night before the summit begins.
The venue is set to receive international leaders and representatives during the September 12-13 programme.
The summit will give participating countries an opportunity to strengthen cooperation, discuss shared priorities and exchange views on major global and regional challenges.
