External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday described the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi as a ‘resounding success’, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, vision and commitment for bringing together countries from diverse geographies and cultures.
Jaishankar said the summit, held as BRICS marked its 20th year, helped members find common ground, bridge differences and maintain open and constructive discussions. He further said the meeting produced a strong consensus and reflected BRICS’ shared resolve to advance the interests of the Global South.
Jaishankar noted that PM Modi’s call for peace, dialogue and diplomacy was gaining international support.
“Our teams worked 24/7 to make this happen, and by doing so, they really made India proud,” the Minister said.
India hosted the two-day summit at Bharat Mandapam from September 12 to 13 as BRICS chair in 2026.
The grouping comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE. Its partner countries include Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi described BRICS as an ‘ecosystem of solutions’ and urged members to turn summit decisions into time-bound action and last-mile impact.
PM Modi thanked the participating leaders, saying their presence reflected BRICS’ growing relevance, openness and inclusiveness. He wished China success as the next BRICS chair.
