Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a bilateral meeting on Friday, gifted various Indian handicrafts and sculptures to his Laos counterpart Sonexay Siphandone, Laos President Thongloun Sisoulith, and their spouses. These gifts reflect India’s rich cultural heritage and underscore the growing ties between India and Laos.
PM Modi presented Laos President Thongloun Sisoulith with a vintage brass Buddha statue, adorned with mina work. Crafted by skilled artisans, the statue reflects South Indian craftsmanship and Buddhist philosophy. The statue, in a seated posture with the abhaya mudra, symbolizes protection and serenity. The intricate mina work enhances its spiritual and artistic appeal, representing India’s metalworking heritage.
For the President’s spouse, Naly Sisoulith, PM Modi gifted a Patan Patola scarf, packed in a traditional Sadeli box. The Patola, woven by artisans in Gujarat, showcases vibrant, intricate motifs inspired by the Rani ki Vav stepwell. The Sadeli box, a decorative wooden piece, further represents the rich craft traditions of India.
To Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, PM Modi gifted a Kadamwood Buddha head, symbolizing serenity and enlightenment. The piece, with detailed engravings of lotus flowers and elephants, beautifully blends craftsmanship with spirituality.
For Siphandone’s spouse, PM Modi presented a malachite and camel bone box featuring a Radha-Krishna theme. The box, symbolizing divine love and devotion, reflects Indian culture’s deep-rooted spiritual and artistic traditions.
