BJP To Form Government In West Bengal; PM Modi And Amit Shah To Attend Oath Ceremony

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form a new government in West Bengal, with the cabinet scheduled to take oath on May 9.

State party chief Samik Bhattacharya confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and  Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the ceremony.

Bhattacharya stated that the date aligns with the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore as per the Bengali calendar.

The event will take place at the Brigade Parade Ground. The State party chief declined to identify the prospective Chief Minister of the first BJP-led government in the state since Independence.

On Wednesday, Bhattacharya visited Nabanna with central observer Sunil Bansal and Members of Parliament Jyotirmoy Mahato and Saumitra Khan. They met Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala to review administrative arrangements.

The discussion addressed preparations for the swearing-in and measures to curb post-poll unrest.

The administration currently functions under the supervision of the Election Commission of India.

Bhattacharya issued a firm directive against retaliatory politics. He warned party workers against forcibly occupying offices of rivals, including the All India Trinamool Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist). He stressed strict disciplinary consequences for violations.

The Election Commission has instructed officials and deployed forces to ensure zero tolerance towards violence.

Reports of clashes have emerged from multiple regions following the election results. Authorities continue monitoring the situation closely.
