BJP Slams AAP Government Over CAG Report On Alleged Excise Policy Irregularities

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government following a damning report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, which alleges irregularities in Delhi’s now-scrapped excise policy. The report suggests that these lapses have resulted in a significant loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the public exchequer.

On Saturday, BJP President JP Nadda launched a scathing attack on the AAP government, accusing them of gross misgovernance. He pointed to the CAG’s findings, which he described as evidence of a “power drunk” administration under Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“The report on ‘liquorgate’ exposes Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP government for their involvement in a scandal that cost the nation over Rs 2,000 crore,” Nadda said. Taking to social media platform X, he criticized the Delhi government for its “intentional lapses” in policy execution, stating that the “AAP’DA model of loot is on full display—especially over something as critical as liquor.”

CAG Report Highlights Irregularities And Losses

The CAG’s report has created a political storm, drawing attention to several significant lapses in the implementation of the excise policy. For the first time, the report estimates the financial loss to the exchequer at Rs 2,026 crore.

It further alleges that the Kejriwal administration allowed licences to bidders who were already incurring losses. With decisions being made arbitrarily and in violation of the recommendations from the Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG).

BJP Warns AAP Ahead of Delhi Elections

Nadda issued a pointed warning to the AAP, suggesting that the party will soon face repercussions for its actions. “In just a few weeks, the people will vote them out and punish them for their misdeeds,” he said, referencing the upcoming Delhi elections.

Other BJP leaders echoed Nadda’s criticism, describing the CAG report as a stark revelation of corruption within the AAP. They accused the AAP of betraying the public’s trust and exploiting taxpayers’ hard-earned money. “This is a shameful betrayal by a party that claims to practice clean politics,” said one BJP leader.

AAP Questions CAG Report’s Authenticity

In response, the AAP has challenged the authenticity of the CAG’s findings. Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh questioned the origin of the report and its claims. “Where is this CAG report? Where are these allegations coming from? The report has not even been tabled, yet they are making such claims,” Singh stated, casting doubt on the veracity of the BJP’s accusations.

Both parties are gearing up for a war of words as the political battle over the excise policy irregularities intensifies, keeping Delhi’s political landscape on edge ahead of crucial elections.
