BJP Leader Demands Arvind Kejriwal’s Resignation Following HC Ruling on Liquor Scam Allegations

BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj called for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation following the Delhi High Court’s dismissal of his petition challenging his arrest. Swaraj accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of involvement in a ₹100 crore liquor scam, alleging that the funds were used for party activities.

“The Delhi High Court’s judgment underscores Arvind Kejriwal’s significant role in the liquor scam, implicating him as the head of AAP. The court’s thorough review of the evidence leaves no doubt. Kejriwal’s arrest is justified, not illegal. Hence, on moral grounds, Kejriwal should resign,” Swaraj asserted.

She further claimed, “Kickbacks amounting to ₹100 crore were allegedly siphoned off in the Excise policy case, with AAP channeling these funds for its political endeavors. The court meticulously examined the evidence presented by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), including Hawala transactions and the testimony of an approver.”

The Delhi High Court, in its ruling, upheld the legality of Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED in the Delhi excise policy case. Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma emphasized that the ED possessed substantial evidence warranting Kejriwal’s arrest. The court also noted Kejriwal’s failure to cooperate with the investigation and the resulting delays were adversely affecting individuals in judicial custody.

In response to the High Court’s decision, the AAP declared its disagreement, denouncing Kejriwal’s arrest as a “political conspiracy.” Arvind Kejriwal’s legal representative, Advocate Rishikesh Kumar, announced their intention to challenge the verdict in the Supreme Court.

“We have contested the unlawful arrest of Arvind Kejriwal. While the High Court upheld the legality of the remand order and validated the grounds for arrest, we firmly disagree. As soon as the detailed order is released, we will promptly appeal to the Supreme Court,” stated Kumar.

The AAP’s move to approach the Supreme Court underscores the ongoing legal battle surrounding Kejriwal’s arrest and the contentious allegations of corruption leveled against the Delhi Chief Minister and his party.
