BJP Gives CM Atishi 48 Hours To Table CAG Reports; Warns Of Court Action

The BJP has demanded Chief Minister Atishi call a Delhi Assembly session within 48 hours to table 14 pending CAG reports. BJP Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta accused the AAP government of undermining constitutional institutions by delaying the reports.

At a press conference, Gupta alleged the reports expose financial irregularities in areas like the now-withdrawn excise policy, air pollution spending, and state finances. He claimed the delay is a tactic to avoid embarrassment for the Atishi-led government.

Gupta warned of action if the reports are not made public soon. “If CM Atishi or Arvind Kejriwal fail to table the CAG reports, it will be the last nail in AAP’s coffin. We will take the fight to the streets and return to the High Court,” he said.

The BJP believes the delay suggests financial mismanagement by the Kejriwal government. Gupta reiterated his party’s intent to demand an Assembly session, accusing AAP of trying to suppress the reports.

BJP leader Satya Ranjan, who represented the party in court, emphasized the constitutional duty of the CAG to ensure transparency and accountability. “The reports are crucial for institutional integrity,” he said.

The Delhi government has allegedly withheld the reports since June 2022. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recently approved the reports and sent them to CM Atishi for Assembly tabling.

Gupta dismissed concerns about the Model Code of Conduct, expected with the announcement of election dates, claiming it does not prevent tabling the reports. The BJP has vowed to escalate the matter if no action is taken soon.
