Bihar Polls Mark Peaceful Milestone; PM Modi Had Forecast NDA’s Sweep

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections stand out as a milestone in the state’s political history. For decades, Bihar’s polls were marred by violence, repolling, and widespread malpractice.

  • 1985 Bihar elections: 63 deaths and repolling conducted in 156 booths.
  • 1990 Bihar elections: 87 deaths reported amid election violence.
  • 1995 Bihar elections: TN Seshan, the then Chief Election Commissioner, postponed the elections four times due to unprecedented violence and irregularities.
  • 2005 Bihar elections: Authorities conducted repolling in 660 booths due to clashes and malpractices.

In stark contrast, the 2025 Bihar elections concluded with zero repolling and zero violence, signalling a new era of peaceful and transparent electoral practice in the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier predicted that the NDA would secure a decisive victory in Bihar.

His statement resonated with the electorate and highlighted the faith people had in the party’s governance and developmental record.

The calm and orderly conduct of the elections further reflected the confidence and maturity of Bihar’s voters.

Political analysts noted that such a peaceful election was a historic achievement, reflecting the successful implementation of electoral reforms and the vigilant role of the Election Commission.

Security measures, strict monitoring, and voter awareness campaigns contributed to a smooth polling process.

Peaceful Elections, a New Benchmark

The absence of violence and repolling in 2025 contrasts sharply with Bihar’s electoral past, where the term ‘Jungle Raj’ was often used to describe lawlessness during elections.

This transformation underscores the state’s evolving democratic maturity and the ability of institutions to ensure fair and safe polling.

Political leaders from various parties acknowledged the peaceful conduct of the elections, praising the administration and the voters for upholding democratic values.

Citizens, election officials, and security personnel collectively ensured a seamless process, making Bihar a model for future state elections.

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections mark a turning point in the state’s political and democratic history.

With the NDA’s resounding mandate confirmed and the electoral process conducted without incident, Bihar has set a new standard for political stability, voter participation, and election management in India.

PM Modi’s foresight about the NDA’s victory, coupled with the state’s peaceful polling, reinforces confidence in Bihar’s democratic institutions and showcases the potential for clean, credible, and violence-free elections in the country.
