Bengal School Job Case: Out On Bail, ED Summons TMC Legislator

On Sunday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Trinamool Congress legislator Jiban Krishna Saha, who is currently out on bail. This summons is related to Bengal school job case.

Saha is required to appear at the ED’s office in the central government office (CGO) complex at Salt Lake, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, by Monday afternoon. The ED officials want to question him about irregularities in the hiring process for teaching positions in state-run schools at both secondary and higher secondary levels.

Last year, Saha was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is conducting a separate investigation into the school job case. However, he was released on bail earlier this year.

The ED, which is focusing on the money laundering aspect of the case, has now decided to interrogate Saha. This follows a previous questioning of Saha’s wife, Tagari Saha, in connection with the case.

Jiban Krishna Saha made headlines in April last year during a CBI search operation at his residence in Murshidabad district. During the search, he threw his two mobile phones into a pond adjacent to his house. Despite the effort, CBI officials managed to recover both phones and retrieve the data.

The CBI’s search operations reportedly uncovered documents, both paper and digital, linking Saha to the recruitment of around 3,200 candidates for teaching and non-teaching positions in West Bengal’s state-run schools. The ED is now examining these findings as part of its investigation into the money laundering aspect of the scam.
