Beneficiaries In Uttarakhand Call Ayushman Bharat A Lifesaver On PM Modi’s Birthday

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his birthday, voices of gratitude echoed across the hills of Uttarakhand, where the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) is making a significant impact.

Citizens across Chamoli district called the health scheme a ‘blessing’ that is transforming lives by making quality healthcare accessible to all.

Official figures reveal that 2,29,384 individuals in Chamoli are enrolled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

More than 51,000 people have already received free treatment at both government and empanelled private hospitals—proof of the programme’s growing reach and effectiveness.

Real Stories, Real Impact

Pawan Kumar, admitted at the District Hospital in Gopeshwar, shared, “I’ve been here for a week. Thanks to the Ayushman card, my entire treatment was free. This scheme is a blessing for poor people like me.”

Surendra Singh Kandari expressed his gratitude after his wife underwent gallstone surgery at no cost.

“She had been in pain for a long time. With the Ayushman card, her surgery and full treatment were free. We are thankful to the government.”

Shobhit Singh, who brought his elderly grandmother for treatment, added, “All her diagnostic tests were done for free. That gave our family huge relief.”

Launched under the National Health Policy 2017, Ayushman Bharat is the world’s largest health assurance programme, offering up to ₹5 lakh of annual medical coverage to economically vulnerable families.

Now also covering senior citizens, it continues to widen its impact across India.

The initiative comprises two main components: Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) that focus on primary healthcare, and PM-JAY, which provides financial protection against major health expenses.

Together, they aim to deliver comprehensive, equitable, and quality healthcare services to all.

Uttarakhand’s Role in Ayushman Bharat

Ayushman Bharat is bridging the healthcare gap in hilly regions like Uttarakhand, where geography and income limit access. It offers not just treatment but also dignity and financial security to families that previously had to choose between health and hardship.

As India pushes forward with its Sustainable Development Goals and the principle of ‘Leave No One Behind’, Ayushman Bharat stands as a symbol of social equity.

On PM Modi’s birthday, the success in Uttarakhand reflects his vision for inclusive development and citizen welfare.
