Bareilly-Prayagraj Sangam engine derails, major accident averted

PRAYAGRAJ :The engine of Bareilly Express coming from Bareilly to Prayagraj Sangam derailed in the yard of Prayagraj Sangam railway station on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at 5.20 am when the train was about 500 meters away from the platform. The train stopped suddenly with a loud noise and there was chaos from the coach adjacent to the engine till the last coach.

The Railways was so lucky  that the speed of the train was slow at the time of the incident, otherwise a big accident would have happened. After the incident, rail operations came to a halt between Prayagraj Sangam and Prayag Junction for about two hours. After about five hours the engine could be put on the track. Northern Railway Lucknow Division has constituted an inter-departmental investigation team to investigate the entire sequence of events and the reasons behind the incident. This team will submit its report in three days.

Train number 14308 Bareilly-Sangam Express left Bareilly at 5.30 pm on Tuesday evening. It was to reach Prayagraj Sangam at 3.10 in the morning. But this train got delayed by more than two and a half hours. When the train stopped at Prayag at 5.10 in the morning, a large number of passengers got off. From here the train left for Prayagraj Sangam and six wheels of the electric loco engine derailed with a loud noise in the yard of Prayagraj Sangam.

When the loco pilot sent the information wirelessly, the railway personnel posted at Sangam and Prayag stations, railway officials, station manager VK Yadav and the technical department staff arrived and the work of loading the engine started. Trains coming to Sangam  were stopped at Lalgopalganj, Saray Chandi, Tharwai, Prayag.
