Banging the Bali Gavel: Modi Idea for G20 Presidency of India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces, the G20 presidency of India will be decisive, action-oriented and inclusive as well.

December, 01, 2022 is the long awaited date when India formally is going to begin its G20 presidency hosting the next summit in the month of September next year in New Delhi.

Joko Widodo, Indonesian President, symbolically handed over the G20 presidency to the Indian Prime Minister yesterday on Wednesday 16 of November for the next session.

With hopes of making the G20 a “catalyst for global change” India expects its presidency of the group in 2023 to be action-oriented as well as inclusive, says PM Modi on Wednesday during the persisting differences over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, among the world’s largest economies.

During the handing over ceremony of G20 presidency to India by Indonesia, PM Modi said, India is going to work for collective action on global challenges viz. food and energy security. At the closing session of the G20 Summit in Bali, banging the gavel, Indonesian President Joko Widodo symbolically handed it over to the Indian Prime Minister with a mark of the presidency change.

Speaking the the world’s top gathering at the closing session, PM Modi made a note about the time when India is taking charge of the G20 “when the world is apparently grappling with geopolitical struggles, economic slowdown, food &energy price rise along with the long-term negative impacts of the pandemic”. The Indian Prime Minister took privilege of congratulating Widodo for a brilliant and “efficient leadership” of the G20 in the present tough times.

Modi to the world leaders spoke in Hindi saying, “During the today’s tough times, the hope is seen lying at the G20, and I would like to assure you today that India’s G20 presidency is going to be ambitious, decisive, action oriented as well as inclusive.”
