In a significant breakthrough, the Mumbai Police have detained three additional suspects in connection with the murder of former Minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Baba Ziauddin Siddique. Officials confirmed the detentions on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals include Harishkumar Balakram, a 23-year-old scrap dealer from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, as well as two others identified as Gullu and Monu. All three were caught in Pune. Balakram allegedly played a crucial role in the conspiracy, providing financial and logistical support for the assassination that occurred on the night of October 12.
The exact roles of Gullu and Monu are under investigation. They reportedly lived with the Lonkar siblings, Praveen, who was arrested late Sunday and is in police custody until October 21, and Shubham, who was previously interrogated and released. On October 12, two others were detained, including Gurnail Singh, who is in custody, while an associate, believed to be a minor, awaits a medical report to confirm his age. This brings the total arrests in the case to six. The police continue to search for other suspects, including Shiv Kumar and Mohammed Zishan Akhtar.
A day after Siddique’s murder, the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility, adding a new mafia angle to the incident that has triggered widespread political outrage, particularly from the Maha Vikas Aghadi-INDIA bloc against the ruling MahaYuti regime. Police investigations reveal that the shooters were instructed to target either Siddique or his Congress MLA son Zeeshan, both linked to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Recently, the Bishnoi gang had made headlines by firing at Salman Khan’s residence, escalating security concerns for the star and his family.
