On Monday, a special MP/MLA court sentenced Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan to seven years in prison for the 2016 Dungarpur incident. Apart from him, three other people were sentenced to five years in prison. Khan (75) was also fined Rs 5 lakh, while the others will have to pay Rs 2 lakh apiece.
On Saturday, Special Judge Vijay Kumar convicted Samajwadi Party (SP) politician and former municipal chairman Azhar Ahmed Khan, retired circle officer Aale Hasan, and contractor Barkat Ali.
The BJP administration in Uttar Pradesh filed a complaint against Khan and others in 2019 for the forced demolition of a house in Dungarpur in 2016. Khan was accused of criminal conspiracy, while others were charged with major offenses such as breaking into a dwelling, violence, intimidation, and theft.
The case was filed at the Ganj police station under Indian Penal Code sections 447 (punishment for criminal trespass), 427 (mischief causing damage of fifty rupees), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 395 (punishment for dacoity), and 412 (dishonestly receiving stolen property in the commission of a dacoity), according to police.
Former SP state secretary Omendra Singh Chauhan, Zibran Nasir, and Farman Nasir were acquitted owing to a lack of evidence.

Khan is currently in Sitapur jail, while Azhar Ahmed Khan is in Bijnor jail. Azam Khan has been convicted in five trials thus far.
He was also sentenced to seven years in jail last year in connection with his son Abdullah Azam’s false birth certificate. His wife, former MP Tajin Fatma, and son, former MLA Abdullah Azam, have both been sentenced to seven years in jail in the same case. The two are released on bond.
