Avaition Security Week
As part of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security’s (BCAS) Aviation Security Culture Week, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is displaying safety messages on flight tickets, boarding passes, and through crew announcements. The event, running from August 5 to August 11, aims to engage passengers in the security screening process.
A source at the airport revealed that on August 6, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) conducted a mock drill in Terminal 2. The drill simulated a bomb threat, with the bomb detection and disposal squad, accompanied by canines, quickly responding. A containment vehicle was deployed, and the bomb was safely retrieved and disposed of.
The fire department, Karnataka police, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) staff, and BCAS participated in the two-hour exercise.
The theme for this year’s security culture week is “Enhancing Passenger Security through the Process of Diversification.” Diversification involves removing items such as watches, belts, and metal objects that could trigger security alarms and disrupt screenings.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah praised the BCAS for organizing the event. He wrote on X, “Congratulations to Shri Zulfiquar Hasan, DG BCAS, and the whole team of RO BCAS Bengaluru for organizing the aviation security culture week in India to bring awareness on civil aviation security with a commitment to make air travel safe.”
The airport has displayed security messages outside shops and throughout terminals 1 and 2 to increase public awareness.
