One person tragically lost his life while several others sustained injuries as a bus carrying aspiring candidates overturned. The incident occurred in Assam’s Dima Hasao district early Thursday morning. The candidates were on their way to a recruitment examination for the Tripura State Cooperative Bank (TSCB).
The incident unfolded as heavy rainfall battered the region, causing the bus to overturn and collide with a road divider before plunging into a drain.
Deepraj Debbarma, aged 27, lost his life on the spot, while several others sustained severe injuries.
As per reports, 6 of the injured individuals were in critical condition. They were rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The remaining were shifted to various other hospitals.
A bus carrying around 40 candidates for the TSCB recruitment exam from Agartala to Guwahati crashed in Ditokcherra, Dima Hasao district.
The candidates, all residents of Tripura, were en route to Guwahati to partake in exams for various positions within the TSCB, scheduled to take place over three days starting Friday.
The recruitment drive aimed to fill 156 positions across different categories. Around 19,000 candidates, all permanent residents of Tripura, have applied.
Meanwhile, due to infrastructure constraints within Tripura, the TSCB authorities opted to host examination centers to various other locations.
This decision has drawn criticism from several quarters. Organizations such as the Youth Congress and the CPI-M’s Democratic Youth Federation of India urged the bank authorities to reconsider. They stated that conducting the recruitment examination within Tripura itself would alleviate the financial burden and inconvenience faced by job aspirants.
