Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the state feels deeply fortunate to receive the guidance and blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Assam advances on its development path.
In a message shared on a social media platform, Sarma described the past two days as highly inspirational for Assam, marked by the launch and inauguration of several key initiatives focused on development, connectivity and cultural outreach.
He said the Prime Minister’s visit brought a series of important projects that are expected to accelerate growth while strengthening infrastructure and transport networks across the state, reflecting the Centre’s sustained commitment to Assam’s long-term progress.
Highlighting a key milestone, Sarma noted that Prime Minister Modi performed the bhoomi pujan of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a four-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of National Highway-715, with an estimated cost of over Rs 6,950 crore.
The 86-km-long project adopts an environmentally conscious design as a national highway initiative. It includes a 35-km elevated wildlife corridor passing through Kaziranga National Park, a 21-km bypass section, and the widening of 30 km of the existing highway from two lanes to four lanes.
The project will pass through Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Golaghat districts, significantly improving connectivity to Upper Assam, particularly Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.
According to the Chief Minister, the elevated wildlife corridor will ensure uninterrupted movement of animals, reduce human-wildlife conflict, enhance road safety, and cut travel time and accident rates, while supporting growing passenger and freight traffic.
Bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat will also decongest towns, improve urban mobility, and enhance the quality of life for local residents.
During the programme, the Prime Minister also flagged off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains—the Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express and the Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) Amrit Bharat Express.
These services will likely strengthen rail connectivity between the Northeast and Northern India, enabling safer and more convenient travel.
Sarma further observed that alongside development and connectivity projects, cultural programmes held during the visit highlighted Assam’s rich heritage and growing confidence, reinforcing a sense of pride among the people while showcasing the state’s traditions on a national platform.
He added that the Prime Minister’s leadership and encouragement continue to inspire the state government’s efforts towards inclusive growth, balanced regional development and a stronger future for Assam.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Sarma, Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita, along with other dignitaries, were present at the event.
