Asian Para Games 2026: PM Modi Congratulates Nishad Kumar On T47 Long Jump Gold

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated para-athlete Nishad Kumar after he won gold in the men’s T47 long jump at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, praising his versatility, determination and sporting excellence.

In a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on X, PM Modi expressed pride in Nishad’s achievement, noting that winning gold on his debut in the event made the victory particularly special. He further wished the athlete success in his future endeavours.

Nishad secured India’s second gold medal at the Games with a best jump of 7.11 metres at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.

Nishad opened the final with a jump of 6.95 metres before taking the lead with 7.09 metres. He improved his mark to 7.11 metres, matched the distance in his fifth attempt and finished with 7.07 metres.

Uzbekistan’s Omadbek Khasanov won silver with a season-best 6.99 metres, while Sri Lanka’s Mohammadu Safran claimed bronze with 6.55 metres.

Primarily known for his achievements in the high jump, Nishad began competing in the long jump last year. His latest victory demonstrated his ability to succeed beyond his specialist discipline.

Nishad won silver in the men’s T47 high jump at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and has secured world championship gold in the discipline. He is the defending Asian Para Games champion in the high jump.

Nishad’s latest triumph adds another gold medal to his record and strengthens India’s campaign at the ongoing Asian Para Games 2026.
