Asian Games 2026: PM Modi Hails Mirabai Chanu, Indian Skeet Teams After Bronze Medals

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated weightlifter Mirabai Chanu after she won the silver medal in the women’s 49kg event at the 2026 Asian Games. He further praised India’s men’s and women’s skeet teams for securing bronze medals.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “A special Silver for @mirabai_chanu! Congratulations to her on winning the medal in the Women’s 49 kg Weightlifting event. Her determination and consistency continue to inspire the nation. India is proud of her. Best wishes for her future endeavours.”

Chanu lifted a total of 198kg, including 87kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk, to win her maiden Asian Games medal.

The silver completed her medal collection across the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, while ending India’s 28-year wait for a weightlifting medal at the Asian Games.

The Prime Minister congratulated Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan after they won bronze in the women’s skeet team event.

India’s men’s skeet team secured bronze, with Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Singh Gill and Mairaj Ahmad Khan contributing to the medal haul.

The latest results added four medals to India’s tally on Wednesday, taking the country’s total to 11, comprising one gold, five silver and five bronze medals, as of the latest update.
