Arvind Kejriwal Summoned By Delhi Court As Delhi CM Ignores ED Summons

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was summoned by a Delhi court on Wednesday in response to the Enforcement Department’s appeal that he ignored the summons in the money laundering case pertaining to the purported liquor policy scandal. Kejriwal has been ordered to appear in court on February 17 by Rouse Avenue Courts Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra.

Delhi Court sends summon as ED files case against Kejriwal

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a complaint against Kejriwal for failing to appear at the summons, and the court took cognizance to the case. “Cognizance [of the complaint case] has been taken. Summons are ordered to be issued for February 17,” the court said.

The Enforcement Directorate has opened a new complaint against Chief Minister Kejriwal for failing to comply with the summons he got in connection with the money laundering case. In the course of the last four months, Kejriwal has received five summonses from the ED. The CM, however, has ignored the summons, stating that they are unlawful.

Aam Aadmi Party in trouble

Under Section 190 (1)(a) of the Cr.P.C. read with Section 200 of the Code, Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and Section 63 (4) of PMLA, 2002, ED has filed a new complaint case. The ED summonses for November 02 and December 21 of last year, as well as January 03 and January 18, were ignored by Chief Minister Kejriwal. The summons notices, in his words, are “illegal.” Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are being held in custody by the police in connection with the money laundering case.

The Department of Economic Development (ED) has claimed that the excise policy was put into place as part of a plot to award some private enterprises a 12 percent wholesale business profit; however, the Group of Ministers (GoM) minutes do not contain any reference to this requirement. Additionally, the Central Agency has asserted that Vijay Nair and other individuals conspired with South Group to give distributors huge profit margins. Nair was speaking for the chief minister.
