The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, June 24, recording his statement in connection with the excise policy case, according to CBI sources. The agency has also received permission to present the Delhi CM before the concerned trial court on Wednesday and is likely to request his custody at that time.
On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court stayed the regular bail granted to Kejriwal by the trial court, stating that the lower court did not “apply its mind” in passing the order. Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain, a single judge bench, issued the stay while hearing the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) application seeking to overturn the trial court’s June 20 bail decision. In response, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed disagreement with the verdict and announced plans to challenge it in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had previously stated it would await the High Court’s decision and review Kejriwal’s plea against the High Court’s move on June 26.
