Arrest Warrant Issued For Absconding Criminal With ₹2.5 Lakh Bounty After Parole Violation

The Allahabad High Court has expressed its dissatisfaction with the police over their failure to arrest absconding accused Faheem, who has been missing since his release on parole. The court has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh to file a personal undertaking explaining the reasons for the delay in apprehending Faheem.

Justice Samit Gopal, while hearing Faheem’s bail plea, criticized the police for their inability to locate the absconding accused for over a year, despite a non-bailable warrant being issued against him. The court emphasized that it is the police’s responsibility to find and arrest Faheem, and merely increasing the reward for information leading to his capture is insufficient.

The state government’s advocate reported to the court that the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Moradabad has increased the reward for Faheem’s capture from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh. Faheem has 62 criminal cases registered against him nationwide, with 33 cases in Uttar Pradesh alone, 17 of which are in Moradabad. Additionally, he is involved in 29 cases in other states. Since his release on parole, Faheem has committed four more criminal offenses, including incidents in Bengaluru and Pune.

The police learned from co-accused Ankit and Bablu that Faheem acquired a pistol, 27 cartridges, and a Swift car in Pune, which he used to commit a robbery. Despite employing electronic surveillance, the police have been unable to trace Faheem, who is believed to be hiding in South India along with his wife. Both the police and the petitioner’s advocate lack concrete information on his whereabouts.

Faheem, who was imprisoned for a murder case, was granted a three-month parole by the High Court on April 13, 2023, based on medical reports.
