Army Intensifies Relief Ops In Dharali After Cloudburst; Evacuations, Aerial Support Underway

After a severe cloudburst in Uttarkashi’s Dharali region, the Indian Army has stepped up rescue and relief operations. It is coordinating both ground and air support to assist affected communities.

Taking to X, the Indian Army’s Central Command posted, “Col Harshvardhan, Commanding Officer of 14 RAJRIF, is personally leading 150 personnel in critical rescue and relief operations since 5 Aug 25 (AN). Inputs from the CO have been received reassuring the citizens of Army’s continued efforts to rescue all survivors.”

“Additional Army columns along with Army tracker dogs, drones, logistic drones, earthmoving equipment, etc have been moved ahead to supplement the resources at Harsil to hasten the efforts,” the post read.

It further added, “Army and Airforce helicopters for essential supplies, medicines and evacuation of the marooned are also being coordinated. In the meanwhile, the residents have been moved to higher reaches in view of rising water levels due to incessant rains.”

Red Alert Issued, Schools Shut

The Uttarkashi district administration remains on high alert after flash floods and landslides struck the region.

A red alert for extremely heavy rainfall has led to the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres across the district.

Authorities have begun public announcements via loudspeakers. They are urging people in vulnerable low-lying areas and near riverbanks to evacuate immediately to safer zones.

So far, four fatalities have been confirmed, with several others missing following Tuesday’s cloudburst.

Ongoing rescue operations involve joint efforts from the Army, police, NDRF, and SDRF.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami returned early from a scheduled visit to Andhra Pradesh. He is now overseeing the situation from the State Emergency Operation Centre in Dehradun.

Dhami reported that over 130 individuals have been safely relocated. He also assured that adequate food, shelter, and medical aid are being provided without delay.
