After taking charge as the Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Arora has removed four women police officers from the post of Deputy Commissioner of Police of the districts and important places. At the same time one such officer has been deputed by him in one of the districts, who himself was about to be arrested in a serious case.
As soon as Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora came into action, the officers facing serious complaints were apparently in trouble. But now questions are also being raised over the removal of women police officers from important posts. Regarding the recent transfers, where strict action is being taken against officers with questionable working style, the non-removal of a Deputy Commissioner of Police surrounded by serious complaints is also the talk of the town. Not only this, in the transfer orders, one such officer has also been deputed as District Deputy Commissioner of Police, who himself has been accused in a serious corruption case.
Major reshuffle was expected
Significantly, with the appointment of Sanjay Arora, who took over as the Police Commissioner in August last year, the discussion of a major reshuffle has started. But the reshuffle did not occur. However, in September 2022, some officers were transferred, in which Chandan Chowdhary was deputed as District Deputy Commissioner by removing Banita Mary Jacker from Southern District, Devesh Kumar Mahla was deputed with removal of Bijendra Kumar Yadav from Outer North. But after this, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tanu Sharma, who was posted about five months ago at IGI Airport, was suddenly removed. Due to the strictness of Tanu Sharma, criminal activities were well in control to a large extent in and around the airport area.
Four women deputy commissioner of police removed
At one time, women IPS officers had joined the mainstream in Delhi Police. Among them were Southern District Deputy Commissioner Chandan Chowdhary, IGI Deputy Commissioner of Police Tanu Sharma, New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Amrita Guguloth, Central District Deputy Commissioner Shweta Chauhan, North-Western District Deputy Commissioner of Police Usha Rangrani and South-Eastern District Deputy Commissioner Isha Pandey. But the Commissioner of Police, who removed Tanu Sharma in the first order, has now removed three more women IPS officers namely, Usha Rangrani, Isha Pandey and Shweta Chauhan from the post of District Deputy Commissioner of Police.
No action taken despite complaints
If sources are to be believed, serious complaints were the reason for some women police officers’ removal in the recent transfer orders. In these orders, there are complaints of extortion against some officers while some officers were allegedly involved in recovery as commission and from illegal constructions. Despite all such complaints against a Deputy Commissioner of Police, no action has been taken and now this is frequently being talked about in the police headquarters, while earlier he was supposed to be the first to be sacked in the reshuffle at the district level.
A deputy commissioner’s past is in questions
During this major reshuffle in the Delhi Police, the command of the District Deputy Commissioner of Police given to an officer has now become a matter of discussion. This officer, who was posted in the crime branch most of the time during his service, has been accused of giving protection to extortionist policemen and was himself allegedly involved in such cases. Lately, even a Special Commissioner of Police was about to take him into custody. But this could not happen due to the intervention of a senior officer. In such a situation, questions are being raised over the posting of that officer rendering services as District Deputy Commissioner of Police.
