Anti-Terror Operation Enters Third Day In J&K’s Kulgam

Security forces continued their anti-terror operation for the third straight day in the Akhal forest area of Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

The Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police jointly launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) on Friday after receiving intelligence inputs about terrorist presence in the region.

Two Terrorists Killed, One Critically Injured

The operation began with a gunfight on Friday, resulting in the death of one terrorist. Security forces eliminated a second terrorist on Saturday and critically injured a third during the encounter.

Officials have not ruled out the possibility of more terrorists hiding in the area.

Senior police officers confirmed that intermittent firing continued throughout the night, suggesting the presence of the injured terrorist or additional militants.

High-Tech Surveillance Supports Ground Forces

To track and neutralise the remaining threats, security forces are deploying drones, thermal imaging, and night-vision equipment. Authorities have identified the two slain terrorists as local operatives.

Security forces launched the Kulgam operation as part of a broader anti-terror drive after the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

On July 28, the Army killed three Pakistani terrorists during ‘Operation Mahadev’ in Dachigam National Park, Srinagar.

Army personnel killed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Suleman Shah. They also eliminated his associates, Abu Hamza and Jibran Bhai, who were involved in the Pahalgam attack.

Security forces are targeting not just terrorists but also their OGWs, sympathisers, drug smugglers, and hawala operators.

Authorities believe terrorists are using funds generated through drug smuggling and hawala rackets to finance their activities in the region.

The joint forces aim to dismantle the terror network in Jammu and Kashmir by targeting its entire support infrastructure, not just individual militants.
