Amit Shah Visits Siliguri As BJP Ramps Up Outreach Ahead Of West Bengal Polls

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Siliguri today as part of a two-day tour of West Bengal, aiming to energise party workers and strengthen the BJP’s organisational presence ahead of the state Assembly elections.

Shah’s schedule includes two major rallies-cum-party workers’ conferences. Shah will hold the first rally in the morning at Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas, historically an industrial hub, and will address the second rally later in the day at Siliguri in Darjeeling district. The Siliguri event will cover the broader North Bengal region.

According to party sources, the Barrackpore programme will host workers from four organisational districts, Bangaon, Barasat, Basirhat, and Barrackpore. Meanwhile, the Siliguri rally will see participation from five districts: Siliguri, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar.

A BJP state committee member explained that the visit aims to energise grassroots workers and reinforce the party’s base across both North and South Bengal.

This marks a shift from Shah’s previous state tour last month, which focused mostly on internal organisational activities and included only a press conference as public engagement.

West Bengal has witnessed multiple high-profile visits this month, beginning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by BJP president Nitin Nabin, and now Amit Shah.

PM Modi addressed rallies on January 17 in Malda and January 18 in Singur, while Nabin held a public rally in Durgapur from January 27.
