Amit Shah To Visit Tamil Nadu On January 4 As Assembly Poll Campaign Gains Momentum

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Tamil Nadu on January 4, a move widely seen as a significant moment in the run-up to the State Assembly elections, which are just four months away.

His visit comes at a time when political activity has intensified across Tamil Nadu, with all major parties stepping up campaign efforts and alliance negotiations.

Political observers are closely watching the visit as an important step towards consolidating the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the State.

BJP leaders believe Shah’s presence will help strengthen coordination among alliance partners and give fresh momentum to the NDA’s election campaign.

According to the schedule, Amit Shah will arrive in Tiruchirappalli on January 4 before proceeding to the Pudukottai district.

He will attend the concluding event of a state-level campaign led by BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran.

The event will take place at Pallathivayal in Nathampannai village, where organisers are preparing for a massive public gathering with an elaborate stage and pavilion.

Senior leaders from NDA parties are expected to attend the meeting.

These include AIADMK general secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami, Tamil Maanila Congress leader GK Vasan, PMK leaders, and representatives from other alliance partners.

Their presence is likely to underline efforts to present a united front ahead of the polls.

Following the public meeting, the Union Home Minister will stay overnight in Tiruchirappalli.

Temple Visit and Pongal Celebrations

On January 5, Amit Shah will visit the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, one of South India’s most revered temples.

Later in the day, he will attend a Pongal celebration at the Army Ground in Mannarpuram.

Around 1,000 women will take part in the event, highlighting the BJP’s outreach to women voters and its effort to connect with cultural traditions.

Party leaders also view Shah’s visit as crucial to firming up alliance dynamics within the NDA.

BJP leaders have been holding continuous discussions with the AIADMK leadership on seat-sharing arrangements and campaign coordination.

Sources indicate that talks are also underway to bring other political groups into the alliance, including factions led by O Panneerselvam and AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran.

At the same time, the ruling DMK has intensified its campaign. Chief Minister MK Stalin has been touring districts, inaugurating development projects, distributing welfare assistance, and mobilising party workers.

The DMK is positioning its governance record and welfare schemes as the foundation of its re-election bid.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK, under Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has stepped up its statewide campaign, accusing the DMK government of administrative lapses and unmet promises.

With Amit Shah’s visit expected to energise the BJP-led front and clarify alliance equations, Tamil Nadu’s political landscape is witnessing heightened activity.

As campaigning accelerates on all sides, the State appears set for a fiercely contested Assembly election in the months ahead.
