Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Kolkata in the last week of October to strategize for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) upcoming bypolls in West Bengal. If plans proceed as expected, Shah will arrive in the city on October 24.
A BJP state committee member confirmed that Shah will focus on finalizing the party’s strategies for the bypolls and will provide guidelines to boost membership in West Bengal.
On the same day, Shah will hold a meeting with elected MPs, MLAs, and key party leaders from the state. The bypolls, set for November 13, are particularly significant for both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress, coming amid ongoing protests related to the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August.

“The new membership drive in West Bengal has been on hold for the past two months due to the RG Kar crisis. We are waiting for the Union Home Minister’s guidelines regarding this issue and the strategies for the upcoming bypolls,” the state committee member noted.
The bypolls will take place in six Assembly constituencies: Sitai in Cooch Behar, Madarihat in Alipurduar, Naihati and Haroa in North 24 Parganas, Medinipur in West Midnapore, and Taldangra in Bankura. Counting of votes will occur on November 23.
All six constituencies became vacant after their sitting MLAs elect to the Lok Sabha earlier this year. The BJP previously held the Madarihat seat, while the Trinamool Congress won the other five during the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.
