Amit Shah To Inaugurate Northeast’s Largest Auditorium In Assam On December 29

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will likely inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha on December 29 as part of his visit to Assam.

The new auditorium is the largest in India’s Northeast. It offers a seating capacity of 5,000. As a result, it significantly strengthens the state’s cultural infrastructure.

Importantly, the government named the auditorium after Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha.

Agarwala is widely regarded as the father of Assamese cinema. Meanwhile, Rabha remains remembered as a revolutionary artist, musician and thinker. Together, the names reflect Assam’s deep respect for its cultural legacy.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Sarma described the project as a tribute to the state’s artistic heritage. Moreover, he called it a major step towards expanding cultural spaces across the region.

“The Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha will inspire future generations to connect with Assam’s rich artistic traditions,” Sarma said.

The government completed the state-of-the-art facility in record time. The auditorium will host large cultural events, performances, conferences and public programmes.

Consequently, it is expected to emerge as a landmark venue for the entire Northeast.

According to officials, the auditorium offers a dedicated platform for artists and cultural organisations. As a result, it enhances Assam’s position as a growing cultural hub.

Furthermore, the inauguration will remain a key highlight of Amit Shah’s Assam visit. His schedule also includes several official engagements.

These events reflect the Centre’s continued focus on Assam’s development and national integration.

At the same time, the project aligns with the state’s broader push to invest in cultural, educational and social infrastructure. The government has pursued these efforts alongside economic growth.

Additionally, the timely completion highlights the administration’s commitment to upgrading public facilities. It also reinforces efforts to promote Assam’s cultural identity.

During the inauguration, artists, cultural figures and dignitaries will attend the ceremony.

Their presence will underline the auditorium’s role in preserving artistic heritage while offering a modern space for public engagement.

Ultimately, the Jyoti Bishnu Prekhyagriha stands as a symbol of Assam’s cultural pride. It successfully blends modern infrastructure with the celebration of historic artistic achievements.
