Union Home Minister Amit Shah will host celebrations at his residence in Ahmedabad on Wednesday to mark the Gujarati New Year, an occasion that coincides with his birthday this year.
As part of the festivities, Shah will welcome visitors and well-wishers at the Royal Crescent Bungalows between 9 AM and 10:30 AM, where traditional greetings and rituals will take place.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is also likely to join Shah for public Diwali celebrations, adding to the festive atmosphere of the day.
Born in 1964, Amit Shah has emerged as one of the BJP’s key strategists and a close associate of Prime Minister Modi.
Over the years, he has played a central role in shaping the BJP’s national growth and electoral successes.
Across Gujarat and other parts of India, BJP workers and supporters mark Shah’s birthday by organising social welfare initiatives such as blood donation drives, cultural programmes, and community service activities.
Celebrated a day after Diwali, the Gujarati New Year, locally called Bestu Varas, marks the beginning of the Vikram Samvat calendar.
The festival symbolises renewal, prosperity, and fresh beginnings, with families visiting temples and exchanging good wishes for the year ahead.
During his stay in Gujarat, Shah will likely inaugurate the newly built MLA residential complex in Sector 17, Gandhinagar, on 23 October
Constructed at a cost of Rs 220 crore, the project replaces the decades-old legislators’ housing facility with a modern complex featuring 216 air-conditioned 4BHK flats spread across 12 nine-storey towers.
The development, which began in 2021, covers more than 28,000 square metres.
Each flat includes two master bedrooms, two additional rooms, a kitchen, dining area, waiting lounge, office space, and a separate staff room.
The complex also houses landscaped gardens, an auditorium, a community hall, a canteen, a health club, and recreation areas for children and senior citizens.
Officials have confirmed that extensive security and administrative measures are being put in place for the event, which coincides with Bhai Bij, the concluding day of Diwali celebrations that represents the spirit of renewal and brotherhood.
