Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday chaired a Lok Darbar in the Sabarmati Assembly area of the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. He interacted directly with representatives of residential societies and reviewed local civic issues.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also attended the programme.
Residents raised concerns about roads, drainage systems, stormwater management, drinking water supply and railway crossings. They also acknowledged the development works carried out in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said, “The Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was extending financial assistance to street vendors to support their livelihoods and recognise their contribution to the informal economy. 8,970 street vendors in the Gandhinagar constituency had received loan assistance.”
Recalling his 30-year public life since 1997, Shah thanked residents for their continued support and said development in the region would accelerate further, with efforts underway to develop Ranip West as a key urban centre.
Shah said his goal since being elected to the Lok Sabha had been to make Gandhinagar the country’s most developed constituency and added that progress was being made in that direction through coordinated efforts of the state and local administrations. He highlighted civic projects including community halls, parks, lakes, roads, libraries and gyms.
Shah said 161 village libraries now operate across the state. Another 100 are likely to open in August. He also said 3.5 lakh books now reach rural areas through the initiative.
Shah also cited the toy bank initiative, free meals for hospital attendants, a 12.5 per cent increase in green cover, water conservation measures, solar rooftop installations and 88 per cent Ayushman health scheme coverage for citizens above 70.
The Minister urged residents to support plantation drives, solar energy adoption and groundwater conservation.
