Amit Shah Reviews Border, Coastal Security In Gujarat; Calls For Stronger Vigilance

Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a key security meeting in Bhuj to evaluate law-and-order challenges in Gujarat’s border and coastal regions.

The discussions brought together senior state officials, police officers and district administrators to review existing safeguards and identify areas requiring greater attention.

During the meeting, Shah instructed authorities to take decisive action against unauthorised occupation of land in areas adjoining the international border. He stressed that officials should enforce regulations rigorously and prevent any unlawful activities from taking root in sensitive locations.

According to the Home Minister, improved border infrastructure, stronger coastal surveillance, and sustained efforts by state agencies have contributed significantly to strengthening security across Gujarat in recent years.

Shah highlighted changing demographic patterns in border districts as a matter requiring continuous observation. He asked local administrations to closely assess such developments and ensure that relevant information is regularly reported to higher authorities.

The Minister also pointed to increasing industrial activity in some border areas, noting that the resulting return of residents to these regions represented a positive development for local communities.

Calling for a coordinated administrative response, Shah directed officials to identify individuals residing illegally in border districts and initiate appropriate legal action. He further emphasised the importance of tracking activities linked to radicalisation and other threats that could undermine security.

The government also instructed district administrations to create tailored operating frameworks to address local concerns, including drone-related risks, cross-border smuggling, and narcotics networks.

Strengthening Intelligence and Financial Surveillance

To improve information sharing and enforcement capabilities, the Home Minister proposed stronger collaboration among security, financial and intelligence agencies operating in border districts. He urged authorities to maintain strict oversight of hawala channels, suspicious banking activity, shell firms, mule accounts, questionable commercial transactions and unusual vehicle movements.

The government also asked financial enforcement agencies to remain alert to developments that may indicate organised criminal activity.

Recognising Gujarat’s strategic coastal position, Shah stressed the importance of maintaining robust maritime security through close coordination with the Indian Coast Guard and related agencies.
