Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined followers across India in paying tribute to Sree Narayana Guru on his birth anniversary.
People remember the renowned spiritual leader and reformer for fighting discrimination and calling for equality and social harmony.
On social media platform X, Amit Shah described Sree Narayana Guru as a ‘great saint, philosopher and reformer’ whose dedication to eradicating social evils and uplifting the marginalised continues to inspire the nation.
Rahul Gandhi also hailed the Guru’s vision. He noted that the Guru’s work for a just and inclusive society still strengthens the pursuit of social justice today.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, paying her respects, called Sree Narayana Guru ‘a revered saint and social reformer from Kerala’ whose teachings on justice, compassion and equality remain vital to building a progressive society.
Marking the anniversary, Pranavanand Swami of Narayana Guru Shakti Peeth in Kardal village, Kalaburagi district, made an announcement. He said that 18 personalities will receive the prestigious ‘Brahmashree Narayana Guru Award’.
The awards recognise contributions across a wide range of fields. These include education, social work, health, agriculture, literature, art, music, theatre and sport.
This year’s observance holds special meaning as it coincides with the centenary of the historic 1925 meeting between Mahatma Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru at Sivagiri Mutt in Kerala. The meeting is regarded as a landmark in India’s social reform movement.
Events, processions and special prayers took place across Kerala and other states. Followers reaffirmed the Guru’s guiding principle of ‘One Caste, One Religion, One God for Humanity’.
