Amit Shah on Rahul Gandhi
Following Rahul Gandhi’s nomination for the Raebareli seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP wasted no time in launching a barrage of attacks against the Gandhi family and the Congress party. Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a direct swipe at Rahul Gandhi, mocking Sonia Gandhi’s purported attempts to launch ‘Rahulyaan’ nearly 20 times, insinuating that Rahul would lose from the Raebareli constituency. Rahul Gandhi is concurrently contesting from two constituencies: Wayanad and Raebareli. In response, the BJP has nominated Dinesh Pratap Singh as their candidate for the Raebareli seat.
During an election rally in Belgavi’s Hukkeri town, Amit Shah expressed confidence in Singh’s potential to secure a significant victory over Rahul Gandhi in Raebareli. Drawing comparisons, Shah contrasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s steadfast commitment to his duties over the past 23 years with Rahul Gandhi’s alleged penchant for frequent vacations. Shah emphasized Modi’s unwavering dedication, highlighting his absence of any allegations while serving as Chief Minister and Prime Minister, juxtaposed with Gandhi’s purported tendency for frequent foreign trips.

Speculation had arisen regarding Rahul Gandhi’s potential return to contest from the Amethi seat, but the Congress party ultimately selected Kishori Lal Sharma as their candidate for the constituency. Union Minister Smriti Irani criticized this decision, accusing Congress of conceding defeat prematurely by fielding what she termed a “proxy candidate” in Sharma. Irani’s remarks suggested that Congress lacked confidence in its electoral prospects, choosing a replacement candidate for Amethi before a single vote had been cast.
