Amit Shah Meets Sunetra Pawar After Ajit Pawar’s Death; Reaffirms Support And Continuity

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Sunetra Pawar, Maharashtra’s newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister, following the tragic death of her husband Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28, 2026.

Shah shared details of the condolence meeting in a public message, acknowledging the profound loss to Maharashtra’s political landscape.

Ajit Pawar’s sudden demise created a significant vacuum in state leadership.

Shah described the loss as irreparable and recognised Pawar’s longstanding contribution to governance and public service. He emphasised that the late leader’s commitment to development and welfare initiatives had shaped Maharashtra’s administrative trajectory.

During the meeting, Shah conveyed solidarity with Sunetra Pawar as she assumes her new responsibilities. He underscored a collective resolve to advance Ajit Pawar’s developmental agenda.

Shah stated that her determination and leadership would prove vital in sustaining the momentum of public welfare programmes initiated under her husband’s tenure.

The interaction occurred nearly two weeks after the fatal crash. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducting a formal probe into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

An accompanying photograph from the meeting shows Amit Shah and Sunetra Pawar in a formal setting.

Senior state leaders, including Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde, appear to have attended.

The gathering projected political unity during a period of transition and grief.

Observers note that Sunetra Pawar’s elevation to Deputy Chief Minister marks a significant moment in Maharashtra’s political framework. Her appointment reflects continuity within the state’s governing structure following the unexpected tragedy.

Shah’s message reinforced stability at a sensitive juncture. It highlighted institutional support for the new leadership and reiterated commitment to development-focused governance.

The condolence meeting symbolised solidarity across party lines and reaffirmed a shared objective to uphold Ajit Pawar’s legacy.

As the DGCA investigation proceeds, the state leadership continues to prioritise administrative continuity and policy execution.
