Union Home Minister Amit Shah met Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed several matters concerning the state.
During their meeting, Shah assured the Chief Minister that the Central government would continue working towards meeting the aspirations of Manipur’s people.
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office said the Home Minister carefully considered the issues that Khemchand Singh presented during the meeting.
Shah is expected to travel to Manipur during the first week of October as part of efforts to review development initiatives in the state.
During the visit, the Home Minister will lay the foundation stone for a new medical college in Senapati district.
The new institution will serve the predominantly Naga tribal population in the area and strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the district.
Shah will assess various development projects during his visit and review their progress.
The Home Minister appreciated the state government’s efforts to restore interstate passenger bus services connecting Imphal with Dimapur and Guwahati.
The services resumed on August 21 after remaining suspended for more than three years.
The disruption followed the outbreak of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in Manipur on May 3, 2023.
The Imphal-Jiribam National Highway, or NH-37, and the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route, or NH-2, provide vital road links between Manipur and the rest of the country.
The state government has worked towards restoring unrestricted movement along NH-2 for people and vehicles from different communities.
During his visit to Kangpokpi district on August 8, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, along with Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and local MLA Haokholet Kipgen, announced the reopening of the national highways for unrestricted movement.
The latest steps reflect efforts by the Centre and the Manipur government to strengthen connectivity, expand healthcare facilities and accelerate development across the state.
