Amit Shah Leads 73rd North Eastern Council Meeting In Shillong

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong on Thursday, bringing together Chief Ministers, governors and senior officials from all eight northeastern states to discuss key development priorities and strengthen regional cooperation.

Held at the State Convention Centre in Meghalaya’s capital, the high-level meeting focused on a wide range of issues, including connectivity, infrastructure, investment, tourism, power, education and economic development across the Northeast.

Representatives from all eight northeastern states attended the session. Leaders reviewed ongoing projects and discussed ways to accelerate growth, strengthen connectivity and improve regional cooperation.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described Amit Shah as the ‘Architect of Peace in modern India’ and reaffirmed the region’s collective commitment to development.

The council is also reviewing recommendations submitted by several sector-specific task forces established to identify opportunities and address developmental challenges in the region.

Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M Scindia emphasised the shared vision of building a stronger and more prosperous Northeast, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to the region’s development.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the meeting would focus on implementing recommendations in tourism, agriculture, sports, investment and infrastructure.

Through the plenary session, the NEC and northeastern states will review major projects and shape future development strategies.

The council, however, continues to plan, fund and coordinate initiatives that drive sustainable growth across the region.
