Amit Shah Launches LPMS To Boost Border Management, Trade Operations

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS), a major digital initiative designed to strengthen border management, improve internal security and facilitate seamless cross-border trade and passenger movement.

Speaking at the launch, Shah highlighted that the establishment of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) stemmed from recommendations made in an earlier report and has evolved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

The Minister noted that land ports have emerged not only as the first layer of national security but also as institutions that support secure and efficient trade while fostering connectivity between people across borders.

Shah also emphasised that land ports have expanded their role beyond infrastructure by promoting India’s culture and heritage and redefining the way border facilities function.

According to an official statement, the LPMS is a state-of-the-art digital platform that integrates operations across land ports into a unified system.

The platform enables secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, bringing land ports in line with the digital standards already operational at airports and seaports.

The system introduces end-to-end digital workflows covering cargo and passenger processing, including slot booking, payments, tracking and single-window clearances.

As a neutral and open platform, LPMS will likely improve coordination among government agencies and private operators, reduce delays and enhance operational efficiency.

The platform is also integrated with key national systems such as the Indian Customs Electronic Data Interchange Gateway (ICEGATE), Unit Linked Insurance Plan (ULIP) and the motor vehicle ecosystem, ensuring greater transparency and interoperability.

Facilities Opened at Dawki and Srimantapur

Alongside the launch, Shah inaugurated newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya and the Srimantapur Land Port in Tripura.

The facilities will likely support border security personnel and other stakeholders working at these strategic locations.

The LPAI, a statutory body under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Department of Border Management, currently manages 15 land ports across India’s borders with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, playing a key role in trade, connectivity and regional cooperation.
