Amit Shah Inaugurates ‘Brahmaputra Wing’ Of Raj Bhavan In Assam

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly built ‘Brahmaputra Wing’ of Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Friday. The event marked a major milestone in Assam’s architectural and administrative progress.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, and former Governors Jagdish Mukhi and Banwarilal Purohit attended the ceremony.

The inauguration at the new Raj Bhavan campus reflected Assam’s effort to blend tradition with modernity.

Governor Highlights Assam’s Spirit

Governor Acharya praised the new wing as more than an administrative addition. He said it symbolises Assam’s legacy, resilience, and aspiration.

Moreover, he compared it to the Brahmaputra River, calling it a sign of the region’s strength, grace, and cultural flow.

The Governor added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and Amit Shah’s guidance, the Northeast has changed remarkably. Once seen as remote, it now stands as the gateway to India’s Act East Policy.

Furthermore, this policy has made Assam a strategic and economic hub connecting India to ASEAN through trade, diplomacy, and culture.

The Governor also honoured saints Srimanta Sankardev and Sri Sri Madhavdev for uniting Assamese society. In addition, he remembered warriors like Lachit Borphukan and Veer Chilarai, along with leader Gopinath Bordoloi, for shaping Assam’s identity.

Economic Growth and New Projects

Governor Acharya highlighted Assam’s economic transformation. He noted that the Gross State Domestic Product rose from Rs 1.92 lakh crore in 2014 to nearly Rs 7.41 lakh crore.

He credited this growth to strong governance at both the Centre and the state. He also praised Chief Minister Sarma for building an inclusive and forward-looking Assam.

As part of the event, Amit Shah inaugurates several projects under the Home Ministry. These include the Investigation Centre of the National Cyber Crime Forensic Laboratory in Dergaon, BSF residential quarters in Guwahati, barracks for 360 personnel, an officers’ mess, and a 10-bed medical facility for ITBP in Sonapur.

In addition, Shah laid the e-foundation stones for the office of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles in Shrikona, a mining unit in Silchar, and a residential and administrative complex at the Regional Headquarters in Jorhat.
