Amit Shah Flags Off 40 Electric Buses Under PM eBus Sewa In Gandhinagar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday flagged off 40 electric buses under the PM eBus Sewa scheme in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and other senior officials.

The launch marks the first phase of the Centre’s PM eBus Sewa initiative in Gandhinagar, where 100 electric midi buses have been sanctioned to strengthen urban public transport.

Gandhinagar Greenline Transport Service Limited (GGTSL), established by the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, will operate the buses.

Implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the PM eBus Sewa scheme has an estimated outlay of Rs 57,613 crore, including a Central Government contribution of Rs 20,000 crore, and aims to deploy 10,000 electric buses across Indian cities.

The newly launched nine-metre, air-conditioned buses can seat 25 passengers and accommodate 13 standing passengers.

Each bus features a hydraulic ramp for persons with disabilities, reserved seating for women and senior citizens, and Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) supporting QR code, UPI and other cashless payments.

The project includes a modern depot and charging facility at Sargasan, built at an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore.

The buses will operate on 18 routes connecting Gandhinagar with key locations, including GIFT City, Gandhinagar Railway Station, IIT Gandhinagar, Kalol, Mansa and Dahegam.

Fares range from Rs 5 to Rs 30 based on travel distance.

The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has announced free travel on the service for the first 15 days, while children below five years of age will continue to travel free thereafter.

According to authorities, the initiative aims to expand clean public transport while improving accessibility, passenger convenience and digital ticketing facilities.
