Amit Shah Felicitates Telangana Police For Eliminating Left-Wing Extremism

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday praised and felicitated police personnel who were instrumental in freeing Telangana from Left-Wing Extremism (LWE).

The ceremony took place in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, where officers involved in anti-Maoist operations were acknowledged for their dedication.

Prominent Telangana Police officials such as DGP CV Anand, State Security Advisor B Shivadhar Reddy, DGP Operations Dr Anil Kumar, and Malkajgiri Commissioner Sumati were among those honoured. Their coordinated efforts, along with elite units like Greyhounds and the Special Intelligence Branch, played a decisive role in curbing extremist activities.

While addressing attendees, Amit Shah reiterated the Central government’s firm determination to eliminate Left-Wing Extremism from the country. He noted that the government set a target deadline of March 31, 2026, during a high-level review in January 2024.

The Minister admitted that some had questioned the feasibility of this goal, but emphasised that a clear roadmap and sustained action helped turn it into reality.

The Home Minister announced that authorities have now declared the Bastar region free from Naxal influence and described it as a defining achievement in India’s prolonged fight against insurgency. He observed that the issue of Naxalism had persisted since the 1970s, affecting multiple generations.

Shah further pointed out that regions impacted by extremism had long suffered from violence, stalled development, and limited opportunities for young people.

Amit Shah expressed deep appreciation for security personnel across the nation who made significant sacrifices in combating LWE. Collective determination and close coordination between various agencies and governments made this success possible.

Describing the development as a breakthrough, the Home Minister said that persistent efforts and unity helped achieve what once seemed unattainable.

The event saw participation from senior officials of central and state administrations, along with members of multiple security organisations, reflecting a unified approach towards strengthening national security.
