Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal at Guwahati Airport in Assam. Designed with world-class facilities, the terminal showcases the state’s rich culture and heritage.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was present on the occasion, congratulated the people of Assam. He added that the Modi government is strengthening the state through modern infrastructure development.
In a message shared on social media, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the new terminal would attract tourists from across the world and help unlock Assam’s economic potential. He noted that the project reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure in the Northeast.
A video released on the occasion highlighted how the terminal integrates elements of Assam’s culture into its design. The project is, however, being seen as a major step in the PM Modi government’s push for development in the northeastern region.
Residents of Assam have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that it will boost employment opportunities. They believe it will also promote tourism in the state. Many feel it will strengthen Assam’s presence on the global stage.
Spread across 1.4 lakh square metres, the newly inaugurated terminal has the capacity to handle 13 crore passengers annually. Its architectural design is inspired by Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage.
The terminal features an immersive forest experience with more than one lakh plants, while bamboo-inspired patterns on the roof reflect the natural beauty of the state. From the outside, the terminal resembles a mushroom-like structure.
