Amit Shah Announces India’s Biggest Breakthrough Against ‘Jihadi Drug’

On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said enforcement agencies had made India’s first-ever Captagon seizure. Captagon is a banned synthetic stimulant that international reports often describe as the ‘Jihadi Drug’.

The operation led to the seizure of drugs worth Rs 182 crore. The coordinated anti-drug exercise named ‘Operation Ragepill’.

Shah stated that the shipment headed to the Middle East and added that authorities had arrested a foreign national in connection with the matter.

In a post on X, the Home Minister said the action reflected the Centre’s continued commitment towards building a drug-free India and reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics trafficking.

The Minister stated that authorities would take strict action against any attempt to use Indian territory as a route for smuggling drugs into or out of the country.

Shah also congratulated officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau for carrying out the operation.

Captagon is a prohibited stimulant that has frequently been linked to organised crime groups and conflict regions in parts of West Asia.

Indian agencies have recently stepped up surveillance of synthetic narcotics networks operating through air cargo and maritime routes.

The latest operation follows a series of major drug seizures carried out by the NCB in recent months.

Earlier this month, the agency seized 349 kg of high-grade cocaine worth Rs 1,745 crore in Mumbai. Investigators traced a wider international trafficking network through a ‘bottom-to-top’ investigation strategy.

In another operation highlighted earlier by Amit Shah, investigators recovered cocaine, ganja, and cannabis gummies worth nearly Rs 200 crore. The case allegedly involved Mumbai-based networks linked to overseas operators and international courier channels.

According to official figures, the NCB seized more than 1.33 lakh kg of narcotics in 2025. The seized drugs valued at nearly Rs 1,980 crore. The agency also arrested 994 accused, including 25 foreign nationals, in 447 cases across India.

At an anti-narcotics programme on Friday, Shah said the government had prepared a roadmap to make India drug-free by 2047.
