Amit Shah Accuses Congress Of Blocking Border Roads In Uttarakhand Over China Fears

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday accused the Congress of stalling development in Uttarakhand’s border areas over fears of Chinese intrusion. He said the previous Congress government avoided building roads near the borders, claiming such infrastructure could encourage Chinese incursions.

Shah made the remarks while addressing the Uttarakhand Rajyotsav Samaroh in Dehradun on November 6.

Remembering former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Shah said the people of the hill region had struggled for years to secure statehood. He accused the Congress and Samajwadi Party of committing atrocities against young protesters during the movement.

The Minister said Vajpayee fulfilled the long-standing demand by establishing Uttarakhand on November 9, 2000. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the statehood movement.

Shah credited the BJP with transforming the state and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accelerated its development. He expressed confidence that Uttarakhand would become the first developed state by 2047 under the Viksit Bharat vision.

Citing economic growth, Shah said Uttarakhand’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) had increased by 50 per cent since 2022. He added that per capita income had risen by 40 per cent. Industrial projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore have started moving forward, he said.

The Home Minister highlighted the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), anti-cheating law and anti-conversion law under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s government.

Shah targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, dismissing his visits to the state as politically ineffective. He accused the Congress of corruption and questioned its development record.

Referring to border infrastructure, Shah said the Congress feared Chinese incursions if authorities built roads. He claimed the Modi government had strengthened India’s borders and transformed border villages into the country’s first villages.

Without naming Pakistan, Shah cited surgical strikes and Operation Sindoor as examples of India’s response to security threats. He further criticised Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra, calling it a ‘Ghuspathiya Bachao Yatra’.

Shah expressed confidence that the BJP would secure a third consecutive victory in Uttarakhand in the 2027 Assembly elections.
