American Truck Yatra
Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader traveled from Washington to New York in a truck with an India-origin truck driver. He engaged in a conversation with the driver and got to know about his day-to-day routine.
This is not the first truck drive of Rahul Gandhi, earlier has traveled via truck from Delhi to Chandigarh. During that ride, he got to know about various issues faced by truck drivers in India.
Mr. Gandhi engaged in a conversation with the drivers from two different nations. Thus, he was able to know what are the conditions in the two countries. While Indian drivers are getting bare minimum as truck drivers, truck drivers in the United States get decent wages to support life.
Indian drivers do not get much respect in the profession but American drivers get respect in society. They are able to live a dignified life. The American trucks are designed keeping in mind the comfort of the drivers, whereas the Indian trucks lack the comfort point.
Also, the video shows that they listened to the charging songs of Sidhu Moosewala. Sidhu Moosewala was a Punjabi singer who died last year in a shootout. He has great fan following amongst Punjabi Youth.
Noting down the good points of truck drivers in America, Rahul Gandhi expressed his desire to implement changes in the home as well. He said, “There are a lot of lessons we can draw from the American truck industry to plan a new vision for the truck industry here in India. Indian truck drivers are the lifeline of our logistics and deserve a life of dignity too.”
He further stated that the drivers are at the forefront of ‘Bharat Jodo’, literally, and their progress is bound to have a positive cascading effect on the entire economy of India.
