In a stern rebuke to criminal behavior, the Allahabad High Court has refused bail to Safi alias Sabi, one of the accused in a disturbing assault case from Aligarh.
The incident, which unfolded on 19 July 2024, involved an attempted abduction and harassment of a young woman by two men on a motorcycle.
Justice Mayank Kumar Jain, in his ruling, condemned the attack as a violation of the principles of a fear-free society and good governance.
The court highlighted that if not for the timely intervention of the victim’s brother and nearby individuals, the situation could have escalated further, potentially resulting in even more grievous outcomes.
According to court records, at approximately 9 AM on the day of the incident, the victim was returning home when the two accused, Sabi and Tabish, began harassing her with lewd remarks.
They then attempted to forcibly make her sit on their motorcycle.
While Sabi tried to grab her, her brother arrived at the scene in response to her screams, along with other bystanders who managed to apprehend Tabish on-site.
Sabi, however, managed to flee the scene.
The police were able to apprehend Sabi the following day, based on information provided by his accomplice and the detailed description of the attack.
The victim has provided a comprehensive statement under Sections 180 and 183 of the Indian Penal Code, confirming Sabi’s involvement and identifying him by distinctive tattoos.
The court’s denial of bail reflects the severity of the crime and the evidence presented, underscoring the judicial system’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the safety of victims.
