Akhilesh Yadav Demands Clarity On Maha Kumbh Stampede Deaths & Arrangements

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav has called for transparency regarding the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela. He urged the government to provide accurate details on the fatalities, the treatment of the injured, and the event’s arrangements.

Speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s Address, Akhilesh demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the situation. He further suggested that the Army should take charge of disaster management and the lost-and-found operations.

Akhilesh Yadav stated, “While the government is continuously giving budget figures, please also give the figures of those who died in Maha Kumbh. I demand an all-party meeting should be called to give clarification about the arrangements for Maha Kumbh. The responsibility of Maha Kumbh disaster management and lost and found centre should given to the Army. The figures for the deaths in Maha Kumbh accident, treatment of injured, availability of medicines, doctors, food, water, transport should be presented in the Parliament.”

Strict Action Needed Against Those Responsible For Maha Kumbh Tragedy: Akhilesh Yadav

The SP Chief also demanded severe action against those responsible for the stampede and those who hid the facts. Additionally, he questioned the government’s decision to conceal the number of casualties.

Additionally, Akhilesh Yadav asserted that strict punitive action must taken against those responsible for the Maha Kumbh tragedy. He also emphasized the need to punish those who concealed the truth about the incident. Yadav further questioned the double-engine government, asking, “If there was no guilt, then why suppress, hide, and erase the figures?”

He further noted, “Log punye kamane aaye the aur apno ke shav lekar gaye hai (People came to earn merit, but they left with the bodies of their loved ones).”

Accusing the Uttar Pradesh government of prioritizing political campaigning over safety measures, Akhilesh Yadav sharply criticized the handling of the event.

He emphasized, “Political campaigning in a religious gathering, especially with a double-engine government, is disgraceful and condemnable. Based on CCTV, drones, and live streaming, those who claimed to be organizing a digital Kumbh are unable to even provide digital records of the deceased.”

Bodies Found, But Government Refuses To Acknowledge It: Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh Yadav highlighted that the remarkable part is that officials found the bodies of the devotees, but the government refuses to acknowledge it.

The SP Chief questioned, “When information surfaced that some people had lost their lives, what did the government do? They used government helicopters to shower flowers. Is this our Sanatan tradition?”

“Our Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister didn’t even express condolences. When the President and Prime Minister of the country expressed their condolences, the government only accepted it 17 hours later,” he added.

The stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela during the second Shahi Snan on Mouni Amawasya claimed at least 30 lives and injured around 60 people.

Opposition leaders raised concerns about the government’s response to the incident during the Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual.
