After twin blasts, Bharat Jodo Yatra resumes amid tight security

The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resumed Sunday from Hiranagar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district amid heightened security in the wake of twin blasts in Jammu. After a day-long break, the foot march started again as per schedule around 7 am from Hiranagar near the International Border along the Jammu-Pathankot highway sealed by the police and other security forces.

Rahul Gandhi entered Samba district’s Tapyal-Gagwal after crossing the Londi checkpoint at around 8 am and was greeted by enthusiastic workers and supporters waiting on both sides of the road. He was accompanied by J&K Congress president Vikar Rasool Wani, former president Ghulam Ahmed Mir, spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, and other leaders.

The march halted near Duggar Haveli in Samba around 12.30 pm and began moving towards Chak Nanak village in the district, where Rahul Gandhi will stay for the night. The Congress leader will restart his journey from Vijaypur on Monday and proceed towards Sidhra in Jammu.

Jammu & Kashmir’s Security beefed up

The terror attack comes at a time when security agencies in the region are on high alert in the wake of the Yatra of the Congress and the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, National Student’s Union of India (NSUI) president Isherpreet Singh on Saturday met with Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and apprised him of the struggle of Paralympic players of Punjab. According to an NSUI statement, Rahul Gandhi encouraged and assured them that he stands firmly with them.

Officials said adequate security arrangements are in place for Gandhi with police, CRPF, and other security agencies keeping a tight vigil to ensure a peaceful march.

The yatra started from Kanyakumari on 7 September 2022, entered Jammu and Kashmir from Punjab on 19 January 2023 evening, and is scheduled to end in Srinagar on 30 January 2023.

The yatra is scheduled to end in Srinagar on 30 January 2023 with Gandhi’s hoisting of the national flag at Congress headquarters.
